One Spring Day in May

Br. Stephen Lucas, O.P.

"One spring day in May 1959, I woke up to the sound of singing birds. I had returned to St. Rose Priory, Dubuque, Iowa for the third time in my religious life, in preparation for my solemn vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. These three vows had always had the first place in my six years as a religious, especially the vow of obedience. Can you imagine making a solemn vow of obedience to someone for your entire life? As far as I can see, it can only be a call and desire for God Himself."

Cooperator Brother Stephen Lucas, O.P., recounts in this personal narrative his journey from the Novitiate to his unexpected assignment in Nigeria, where he spent several decades building a Dominican presence. His every encounter gives witness to his life as a Dominican Friar, and each story illuminates the tribulations and successes of this Nigerian missionary.

Fr. David Delich, O.P.

This collection of talks and articles on faith and God is both light reading and thought provoking. His delightful imagination never tires of coming up with unlikely images. Accompanied with images from St. Pius V Priory's stations of the cross, this text serves as the anticipated follow-up to his book, Reflections on God (Sheed and Ward, 1999).
